a short guide on what to wear for your family photo shoot
Ok so you've found your photographer, now it's time to find outfits for you and your family to wear. A tip I like to remind my clients is that your clothes should match the editing style of your photographer. If the photographer edits with more cool tones, stick with light, airy, pastels. If your photographer edits with more warm tones, dark colors and denims are a great go-to.
Don't overthink it. Set the tone of an outfit that one person is wearing, then put together the rest of the outfits. Make sure your outfits are comfortable! If you're doing a family shoot, it can be more difficult if you or the kids are wearing something they hate or are uncomfortable in.
Another important key to finding outfits is to mix things up. If one person is wearing plaid, don't have everyone wearing plaid. Men/boys can wear variations of button-ups, solid t-shirts, golf tees, or even a jacket. Women/girls can wear dresses, skirts, a blouse and jeans, or a cute jumper/romper.
If you're bringing kids to the photo shoot, prepare ahead of time with packing snacks, water, and maybe even a toy they love. Plan something fun for after photos, like going to the movies or getting ice cream.
